Great fireplace

Really love this room. Pretty much everything about it. I am most taken with the fireplace but the rug, sofa, coffee table and mix of styles also send me. One day! The photographer is Richard Powers.

Cool chair

Those of you who have seen my apartment know that I have a bungie based desk chair from CB2, one of the most comfortable desk chairs I have owned. Surprisingly inexpensive too.

I ran across this design on Not*Cot. It uses sustainable bamboo and bungie cords and is flat packed. The design itself is a reintreptation of René Herbst Chaise Sandow shown here on Flickr. I like this version more.

Fantastic multi-use apartment in Hong Kong

If you haven't seen this, you must check out an article from last week's NYT on a Hong Kong architect's multi-purpose apartment. It's only 344 (!) square feet. He uses sliding walls and light mobile furniture to create 24 different configurations – from spa room with a full bath to dining room to kitchen to media center. What an amazing job. It's also the best use of those cool sliding bookshelves I remember from my corporate days.

What I love about living in a small space is the creative problem solving. You start from the main objective – I want to be able to work, relax and entertain. And then work backwards. You also have to be on the hunt for things that can play multiple roles. This is definitely one of the file.

Great glassware

Love the simple elegance of the Hruska line of glassware from Czech designer Martin Zampach (with accented z).
It's shot incredibly well too.

Amazing space

As wonderful as this space is on a sunny day, I think an overcast day would be amazing in this room.

Floor tiles from recycled leather belts

It's been a slow blogging day for me but I wanted to highlight this very cool use of recycled belts – making floor ties out of them.
Very very cool. The company, Ting, is based in London.

UPDATE: The more I look at this, the more awesome I think it is. Not too cold to the touch. Should have great sound deadening qualities. Infuses the room with a warm cozy feeling. My favorite Dutch word is - gezellig - meaning a cozy comfortable feeling (amongst other things) and this tile most certainly adds that.
